Medical Community

The town has a 10-bed hospital opened in 1983 and an adjacent medical clinic built in 1998 providing office space for all six physicians. A clinic addition being built in 2011 for the Family Health Team will double our clinic space and provide offices for new physicians joining our group.

Services offered at the hospital include 24-hour emergency, physio, lab, x-ray, diabetes education, minor surgery and palliative care. The Family Health Team has affiliated kinesiology, nurse educator, nurse practitioner, chiropody, pharmacist, and counselling and nutritionist services. Our medical group also provides service to two nursing homes, a home for the aged, and an open-custody youth facility in the Chesley area.

Learning and conference opportunities CME opportunities include Problem-Based Small Group Learning, Internet -based CME and 3 centres with university-based CME within 2.5 hours. There are three medical schools and 5 universities within a 2.5 hr-radius. Local hospitals organize CME events and the hospital is equipped with video conferencing for CME.

Support and referral system Our secondary referral centre in Owen Sound has Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedic, Ob/Gyn, Pediatric and Psychiatry services.

The main tertiary referral centres are Kitchener for cardiac care, and London for services such as Neurosurgery and Plastics. Booked distance consultations are done via videoconferencing at the hospital. After-hours radiology support is provided through London Health Sciences Centre.

Our Philosophy

We believe in providing excellent medical care to the community while maintaining an enjoyable lifestyle for physicians and our staff.

In the past year, physicians in our practice have found time to play cello in the local orchestra, run triathlons, collect rare books, cycle in Europe, subscribe to the National Ballet , play recreational hockey, cottage and kayak on Georgian Bay, hike in the Rockies, and attend yoga classes.

We are a Family Health Team paid by a blend of patient enrollment in the clinic and hourly fees for emergency work, providing an excellent income for reasonable work hours.

We work in a consensus style in managing the clinic, and our hospital and office based practice is done in a cooperative manner. We welcome physicians from diverse cultural backgrounds and alternative lifestyles.
